Winter tea & chicken soup

Tis the season, to feel ‘fluish’ isn’t it?

It is very hard to avoid getting a good old cold now we are in the middle of winter, and where ever you go you can hear the familiar song of winter – coughing and sneezing.

Here are two simple recipes to keep you ‘soldiering on’ naturally.

Healthy Winter ‘Tea’

To a cup of boiling water add the following

Juice of 1/2 a lemon

1 teaspoon of ginger – finely chopped

1 clove of garlic – finely chopped

1/4 teaspoon of Tumeric powder

a pinch of cayenne pepper

3 or 4 peppermint leaves

Honey to taste – use a local natural honey if you can

Let it sit for 10 minutes, then enjoy. You can eat the garlic and ginger!

Chicken soup really does have some health promoting benefits and should be a regular part of your weekly menu in winter. The cystine in the chicken thins the mucus in the lungs, and so helps to loosen mucus making it easier to expel.

By adding onion, garlic and ginger you add immune boosting properties. Add carrots and you have a great source of beta-carotene, which helps your body fight off infections.
